The image of Our Lady of Aparecida was found in Paraíba do Sul River in 1717. Thus, in 2017, the image apparition will complete 300 years.
To celebrate the date, the National Sanctuary of Aparecida promotes the Jubilee “300 years of blessings”, with a devotional programming and faith works that will prepare the devotees to the grandiose tercentenary.
2014 marked the first year of the 300 hundred years’ preparatory triennium. Since then, travelling images are being sent to several archdioceses, and Redemptorist Missionaries are conducting a facsimile image of the Patroness to the country capital. During the pilgrimage, portions of land of Brazilian capitals are being collected to form a special crown to Our Lady of Aparecida.
Among the celebrations, we will also have those along with Sanctuary of Fátima, in Portugal, which, in 2017 will celebrate 100 years of the Virgin appearance in the Portuguese city. In 2014, the Image of Our Lady was enthroned in the National Sanctuary of Aparecida. In May, 2015, the Image of the Patronesse of Brazil will be enthroned in Fátima.
In 2016, the National Sanctuary Bell Tower will be inaugurated – bells are being manufactured in the Netherlands especially for this work designed by Oscar Niemeyer. The Bell Tower inauguration is expected to occur on October 12, 2016, in the opening of the Jubilee Year, to celebrate the 300 years of the apparition.
